Juneteenth is celebrated on June 19th to commemorate the emancipation of enslaved people in the United States. The holiday originated in Texas, marking the day in 1865 when, following the Civil War, slaves were declared "FREE" under the 1862 Emancipation Proclamation. Also known as "Freedom Day," Juneteenth is a time to celebrate liberation and emancipation.

2%: A Celebration of Black Artistry” showcases the work of approximately fifteen exceptional visual artists working across various mediums, including painting, photography, collage, sculpture, video and performance.

Throughout Women's History Month, NAACP Orange County will honor and celebrate the remarkable contributions of Black women who are leading change within our community — Join us as we commemorate this month with our Women Leading Change speaker series, which will be part of our General Meeting scheduled for Wednesday, March 20th at 7 PM.

This year, we are taking action at the Huntington Beach City Council Meeting on 1/16/24, where the Council voted 4-3 to discontinue Black History Month, Hispanic Heritage, Women’s Heritage, Pride, and other heritage events.

Join us on May 20, 2024, from 8 am to 4 pm in Sacramento, CA, for the NAACP CA/HI annual Day at the Capitol. This event will gather NAACP Branches from Eureka to San Diego, as we unite to advocate for our legislative priorities.

During Black History Month, we joyfully celebrated the richness of black culture, community, and history by organizing a special screening of "The Space Race: The Untold Story of Black Astronauts" in partnership with UCI; National Society of Black Engineers (NSBE), Nigerian Student Association (NSA), Black Student Union (BSU), Institute of Black Intellectual Innovation (IBII), National Coalition of 100 Black Women, Inc. - Orange County (NCBWOC), and BIPOC Orange County (Black, Indigenous, and people of color).
